Stem Cell Fat Transfers – Latest Cosmetic Procedure to Battle Ageing by Leonard Dawson
Stem cell fat transfers or Cell Enriched Cosmetic Surgery is The Cosmetic Surgery industry’s latest gift to people who want to look young and refreshed for a variety of reasons. For instance, 65-year-old Larry Webb, who works in the sales department, wanted to look young and refreshed because he felt that his “aged and washed out” looks affected sales. “I didn’t want people looking at my cheeks, but to look at my eyes,” he claims. Three months ago, he took a bold step and underwent a recently developed cosmetic procedure, which involves the transfer of fat cells enriched with stem cells from one part of the body to the other.
Dr. Jeffrey Caruth, the medical director of Texas-based Plano Aesthetics, performed the procedure on Webb. He transferred fat cells enriched with stem cells from Webb’s abdomen to his face. Since the procedure is simple and without any complications, Dr. Caruth recommends it to all people who want to look young, energized and refreshed for a variety of reasons.
The method is yet to receive the approval of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) despite the fact that it has already been approved and is being used by cosmetic Surgeons in Europe for several years. Dr. Caruth, who has so far performed 20 – 25 stem cell fat transfers, is enthusiastic about the procedure and is sure that the FDA will approve of it in six months.
Speaking about the various advantages of Cell Enriched Cosmetic Surgery, Dr. Caruth says that it eliminates the need to use costly fillers such as Resilin and gives more long-lasting effects. Moreover, the treatment is non-invasive and can be done under local anaesthesia right in the doctor’s office or in an outpatient unit, totally eliminating the need for hospitalization.
A Cosmetic Surgeon performing the new stem cell fat transfer procedure removes fat cells from one or several parts of the body, treats them to multiply the amount of stem cells in them and then transfers the enriched cells to the face, breasts and other parts of the body to give them a greater volume of muscle tissue for longer periods of time. The presence of stem cells in the transferred fat cells increases their chances of survival and reverses ageing because stem cells have the ability to heal and regenerate.
However, Dallas-based cosmetic surgeon Dr. William Adams Jr. has warned that enough research has not been done on stem stems to prove that they add to the benefits of usual fat transfers, which Cosmetic Surgeons have been performing for several years. He said: “Although stem cell things is the sexy thing to talk about right now… the reality is that the science right now hasn’t necessarily shown that it’s any better than the standard technique.”
Cell Enriched Cosmetic Surgery is also too expensive for a procedure that is not yet approved by the FDA and will cost patients thousands of dollars more than the usual fat transfers. Face lifts done with this method cost $6,500 and cell-enriched Breast Augmentation Procedures costs $15,000.
